What to expect.

Hiking groups in New York publish a day and a link, and the destination changes every week, so each listing points to where the week's hike is posted. Most are weekend mornings, most car-share or meet at a transit stop, and most run an easier option alongside the main one.

Read the week's post for distance, elevation and what to bring. Proper footwear, water and a layer are the baseline. Some groups charge an annual fee that covers insurance; many are free.
